10 upcoming BMW products to be launched by 2022

BMW will launch a plethora of new models by early next decade. Here's a list of 10 future BMW models launched in 2022 either officially confirmed or known to be in the making.

1. BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe 2022

The third and final bodystyle of the 8 Series range – the 4-door Gran Coupe – is expected to arrive in showrooms across the globe in 2020. Previewed as the Concept M8 Gran Coupe in Geneva last year, the 8 Series Gran Coupe will be the ultimate 4-door coupe from the German luxury automaker. It will come in the M850i petrol and 840d flavours initially, and an M8 will follow later.

With the latest BMW X5’s arrival, it’s a no brainer that an all-new BMW X6 is on the way. Spy shots have confirmed the all-new X6 to carryover the X5’s front end, whilst retaining the signature sloping roof and high waistline. It will come in the six-cylinder xDrive40i, eight-cylinder xDrive50i and eight-cylinder X6 M guises.

3. BMW 1 Series 2022

The current 1 Series may be one of the oldest products in BMW's range, but it's a rare RWD entry-level Bimmer. The next generation model due in a few months will be a FWD vehicle. However, BMW is working hard to keep the fun quotient of the 1er intact despite sending power to the wrong wheels. The world premiere is reported to happen at IAA 2019 in Frankfurt this year.

4. BMW 2 Series GranCoupe 2022

BMW recently dropped a teaser of the compact 2 Series range’s newest variant – 4 door Gran Coupe. It is confirmed to break cover in November at the Los Angeles Motor Show this year, before reaching showrooms in mid-2020. It’s the first sedan in BMWs global range (other than the 1 Series Sedan sold in China & Mexico) to go FWD, while its sportier 2 door siblings remain RWD.

5. BMW 4 Series 2022

Another product to make the jump to next generation is the 3 Series' sportier sibling – BMW 4 Series. Expected to be launched later this year, the new 4 Series will be based on the 3er’s CLAR platform that is lighter, stiffer and more modular than before. It will come with economical 4-cylinder turbo petrol and diesel engines as well as straight-six petrol and diesel engines for the 440i and 435d variants, respectively.

6. BMW X8 2022

Although not explicitly confirmed by the Bavarian automaker, there are strong rumours of an SUV even more luxurious than the recently launched X7 in the works. Dubbed the X8, sources say that it will serve as BMW’s flagship product, carry their most expensive price tag and be sold with only 4 seats. If it does get the green light, the X8 will go toe to toe with luxury SUVs like the Range Rover.

7. BMW iX3 2022

Basically the fully electric version of the BMW X3, the iX3 will be the company’s first electric SUV to grace their ‘i’ electrified model lineup. BMW claims that it will have a range of 400 km (WLTP cycle) and be capable of 150 kW DC fast charging. Interestingly, the iX3 will be manufactured in China and exported all over the world.

8. BMW iNEXT 2022

Touted to be BMW ‘i’ range’s technological flagship product, the iNEXT will serve as the company’s Tesla Model X challenger when it arrives in 2021. The iNEXT will also serve as BMWs technological benchmark in the field of design, automated driving, connectivity, electrification and services. Its driving range is expected to be at an impressive 600 km (WLTP cycle).

9. BMW i4 2022

After revealing the i4 in concept form (i Vision Dynamics Concept) at IAA 2017, BMW has released photos of its prototype. It resembles a GranCoupe product, and the sizing suggests that the Tesla Model 3 is in its crosshairs. It will share the "fifth-generation" electric-drive technology with the iNEXT, and will have a 600 km driving range (WLTP cycle).

According to recent news reports, BMW is considering a new supercar as a potential replacement to the BMW i8. Unlike the i8, however, the unnamed supercar will be the flagship of BMW’s M lineup and be built in limited numbers. It could use a straight-six motor paired with electric motors to drive all four wheels.
