200 cc+ segment growing exponentially thanks to Bajaj & Royal Enfield - Report
The 200 cc plus market is primarily driven by the Royal Enfield Classic 350.
While the major chunk of the numbers in the 250cc+ segment are a result of Royal Enfield’s brilliant marketing strategy seen over the years, other players have started showing their interest in the segment, thereby helping the volumes grow further.
With new products like the Bajaj Dominar 400, KTM Duke 250 and the Yamaha FZ 25, the market now has healthy competition. As per numbers revealed by SIAM, volumes of Bajaj-KTM (Duke 390, RC 390 and Dominar 400) has risen to 15,860 (FY17) from 7,057 units in FY16. And this is after the fact that the Bajaj Dominar 400 has been on sale only for a few months. Numbers for the new Yamaha FZ 25 has also been encouraging with 3,584 units dispatched last month.
The 350 cc capacity segment of Royal Enfield which includes the Bullet, Classic and Thunderbird brand, recorded sales of 6,02,856 units in the recently concluded fiscal, up from 4,56,110 units in 2015-16.
The segment is expected to grow further in the new fiscal thanks to the recent launches which include the updated KTM 390 range, KTM Duke 250, Yamaha FZ 25 and the Bajaj Dominar 400 along with the continued expansion of Royal Enfield motorcycles.
