Russia - VW rolls out 200,000th VW Polo sedan from the Kaluga plant
Volkswagen Russia has managed to sell 200,000 units of the Polo Sedan (called the Vento in India) manufactured in its Kaluga plant. The 200,000th unit sold was a petrol model in the Comfortline trim.
The Polo sedan was first produced at the Kaluga plant back in 2010. The Kaluga plant by itself has produced over 700,000 VW cars, with the 700,000th unit rolled out last November. The Kaluga plant was inaugurated in November 2007 and has an installed capacity of 225,000 vehicles a year.
This year in January, VW Russia introduced a new variant of the Polo Sedan called the 'Style.' This variant got a novelty toffee metallic body colour, chrome surround fog lamps and air intake, tinted rear windows, Spokane alloy wheels, LED illuminated rear registration plates and chrome Style badges.
On the inside, the car received a metal plates on the front doorsteps, black lacquered finish for the front panel, chrome trim headlamp switch, climate control system and leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear lever. The special edition was priced at 565,400 Roubles (Rs 9.56 lakh).
VW Russia offers the Polo sedan in a single 1.6-liter petrol engine variant that makes 105 hp with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The base Trendline variant is available only with the manual gearbox and is priced at 473,900 Roubles (Rs 8.01 lakh), while the mid-level Comfortline model costs 558,900 Roubles (Rs 9.45 lakh) and the top Highline costs 639,900 Roubles (Rs 10.82 lakh).
