One of 2013's hottest launches, the Honda Amaze, has topped the Entry Midsize Car Segment in the recent JD Power India APEAL study.

The study is based on responses from 9,069 people who purchased a new car between November 2012 and July 2013. The Amaze was launched early in April this year.

The APEAL study measures satisfaction of owners across 10 indicators like vehicle exterior; interior; storage and space; audio entertainment/navigation' seats; heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC); driving dynamics; engine/transmission; visibility and driving safety; and fuel economy, on a 1,000 point scale. The car owners are quizzed between two-six months of buying their cars.

The Amaze and the Verna lead in segments where Maruti fails.

However, it was a clean sweep for India's largest car maker once more with Maruti Suzuki being pegged as the best in the Entry compact car segment with the Alto 800, the compact car segment with the Estilo - the A-Star and Wagon-R were a close 2nd and 3rd respectively - the upper compact car segment with the Ritz and the premium compact car segment with the Swift.

The overall average score of the industry has jumped to 845 in 2013, a 9-point bump compared to 2012. The study says that impact of vehicle exterior is most noticeable in the midsize segment. 13 percent owners seem to have indicated that vehicle styling was the primary reason they bought the vehicle they did. This category was 8 percent in 2012.
