2014 BMW X5 M50d announced, world premiere at Frankfurt Motor Show
BMW has officially announced the 2014 BMW X5 M50d for the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. And straightaway we can tell you that it justifies the 'M' logo even though it has a 'd' in its nomenclature. This is because it is the world's most powerful inline six-cylinder diesel engine ever made!
The 3.0-liter inline 6 gets tri-turbocharging to boost power to 381bhp while the peak torque is 740Nm. The M50d is capable of doing the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.3 seconds and courtesy of this is an 8-speed automatic transmission and the xDrive all-wheel drive system. BMW claims the M50d is capable of running for 100km using only 6.7 liters of diesel (14.9km/l). The CO2 emissions have been rated at 177g/km.
As far as the suspension goes, no-one can explain it better than BMW's press release. Below is what is mentioned:
The M50d comes standard with Adaptive M suspension including Dynamic Damper Control and air suspension at the rear axle, as well as Electric Power Steering. The optional Dynamic adaptive suspension package comprises Dynamic Performance Control and Dynamic Drive active roll stabilization, while the exterior features standard 19-inch M light-alloy wheels.
Meanwhile, the 2014 BMW X5 range will be available in showrooms from 16th November.
