The 2014 Chevrolet Optra was launched in Algeria recently with prices starting from 1.39 million Algerian Dinar (INR 10.5 lakhs). The new Optra is nothing but a Baojun 630, which is made in China. Baojun, a GM-owned Chinese brand, supplies the rebadged 630 as an Optra to places like Egypt and Algeria.

The 2014 Chevrolet Optra is available with a 1.5-liter engine in Algeria.

In terms of dimensions, the Optra measures 4,515 mm in length, 1,725 mm in width, 1,445 mm in height and 2,600 mm in wheelbase. The sedan weighs 1,240 kg. It is powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder DOHC petrol engine making 112 bhp at 5,800 rpm and 146 Nm of torque between 3,600 - 4,000 rpm. The gearbox is a 5-speed manual unit, and GM claims an efficiency of 14.92 km/l.

Standard features include power steering, ABS, EBD, dual front airbags, four-way adjustable driver seat, rear parking sensors, rear window defogger and a 6-speaker audio system with CD, USB and Aux-in and 6 speakers.

In India, the older Optra was sold from 2003 to 2012. The sedan was discontinued as the Sail sedan was seen by the company as a successor to the Optra. However, General Motors is finding it difficult to sell cars like the Sail, Sail U-VA and Enjoy in India, as these cars were made keeping the Chinese market in mind. Hence, it is doubtful that the new Optra would come to India.
