The 2014 Fiat Punto was launched in Indonesia this week but the hatchback is not the same as the Punto Evo facelift that is waiting to be launched in India.

The Indonesia-spec Punto is imported as CBU from Italy and hence gets the European specification and styling that came into effect in 2012. The car feels older compared to its upcoming Indian counterpart.

The exterior design is a mild evolution of the original car with subtly revised grille and bumper. There are adaptive cornering lights on both sides of the grille. The rear gets taillights that are akin to the India-spec Punto Evo facelift but the bumper lacks the chrome insert.

The Indian Punto (which shares its dashboard with the Linea) has a dual tone interior.

On the inside, both Indian and Indonesian versions share the same dashboard but the latter packs in more equipment and sporty seats while the former's only unique feature is the rear AC vent. Speaking of equipment, the 2014 Punto for Indonesia offers 7 airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP, Hill Start Assist, adaptive cornering lights, ambient interior lighting, power adjustable lumbar support for the driver seat, Blue&Me infotainment system, cruise control and start/stop system.

Power comes from a 1.4-litre petrol engine that is capable of outputting 88.7 bhp and 115 Nm of torque. The transmission is a 5-speed Dualogic AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). In India the same engine will be offered with a manual transmission.

The hatchback is priced at IDR 249 million (around INR 12.80 lakhs) for the Easy variant and IDR 279 million (around INR 14.35 lakhs) for the Lounge variant.
