This is the 2014 Mercedes S Class
The all new Mercedes S Class is the most eagerly awaited car of 2013. Mercedes started working on the new S Class way back in 2008 and now, 4 years later, we were supposed to see the outcome on May 15.
However, we don’t have to wait that long because the first official image of the 2014 Mercedes S Class has leaked online, a good 15 days before its official debut. Carscoop claims that the automaker uploaded the picture on its mobile consumer website in Austria today morning and accidentally made it live for the masses. The image has been taken down from the mobile website.
Carscoop also claims that this may not be the regular trim of the S Class because of the aggressive bumper and sporty alloy wheels. It could be the S63 AMG or a S65 AMG or the normal S Class with an AMG package.
Since we are tracking the Mercedes S Class right from its conceptual stage, we can definitely say that this is no photo-shopped image. The test mules and the Aesthetics S Concept showcased at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show hint at a similar front fascia and body profile.
The front is completely redesigned and is now in-tandem with Mercedes’ new design language. The front fascia is very similar to the new A Class and the new CLA Class. It has a new set of headlights with integrated LED DRLs and a new front bumper with large air vents. The wheel arches are less pronounced than the outgoing model.
Codenamed W222, the all-new Mercedes S Class is expected to debut with a host of cutting edge technologies and a myriad of body styles. A range of petrol and diesel engines will be offered including a 4.6-liter V8, a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 and a new V12 engine. There should a hybrid and plug-in hybrid variant also on offer.
Stay tuned to IAB as we get you all the official details from the public debut of the all-new Mercedes S Class scheduled on May 15.
