Paris Live - 2014 Mercedes S500 Plug-in Hybrid
Powered by a twin-turbo 3.0L V6 engine in addition to a 114 bhp electric motor.
The 2014 Mercedes S500 Plug-in Hybrid (final production version) is seen at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The third hybrid model of the S Class family joins the already existing S300 BlueTEC Hybrid and S400 hybrid models.
The S500 plug-in gets its gasoline power from a 3.0-liter bi-turbo V6 engine producing 333 PS (328.3 bhp) and an electric motor churning an additional 116 PS (114.3 bhp). Combined, the luxury car has 442 PS (435.7 bhp) and 650 Nm of torque. The electric motor gets its power from an 8.7 kWh lithium-ion battery mounted in the boot of the car. As a result, boot space has taken a hit from 530 liters to 395 liters.
The battery can be recharged from a standard charging point within 2 hours according to Mercedes. This would enable an electric-only range of 32 km.
More importantly, the S500 Plug-in hybrid is capable of achieving 35.71 km/l with low CO2 emissions of only 65 g/km. It takes 5.2 seconds for 0-100 km/h, and has a limited top-speed of 250 km/h.
The S500 Plug-in hybrid is priced at 87,965 GBP (INR 87.49 lakhs), and will commence deliveries in November.
