2013 Tokyo Motor Show Live - 2014 MINI

The 2014 Mini had its public unveiling at the Tokyo Motor Show today. As officially revealed on Monday, the Mini is significantly different from its predecessor, especially with its dimensions. The company says that this new model is “completely new from the ground up".

The 2014 Mini is longer on all three counts - height by 7mm, width by 44mm and 42mm in wheelbase. Thanks to the increased proportions, the Mini now offers more interior cabin room along with 211 liters of cargo space, up by 30 percent.

The base Cooper is powered by 3-cylinder 1.5-liter engine that sends 134 bhp to the front wheels churning a peak torque of 219 Nm. The Cooper D gets a 1.5-liter diesel that churns out 114 bhp and a peak torque of 269 Nm. The Cooper S, meanwhile, gets a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine that produces 189 bhp and a torque of 300 Nm. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard with a six-speed automatic as the option.

The new Mini also gets an optional variable damper control that comes with two settings - comfort and sport. 15-inch alloy wheels are standard for the Cooper and Cooper D models whilst the Cooper S gets 16-inch alloy wheels. Pinned on BMW’s UKL platform, the new Mini is the first car in its segment that will sport full LED headlights and taillights. The S and D versions come with an 8.8-inch infotainment system. The cabin also gets better materials and can be fitted with assistance systems as options.
