SRK envisions the next generation Suzuki SX4

Globally, if two cars can be credited with all of Suzuki’s success then they are the Swift and the SX4. The Swift was recently updated with an all new model. The next in line is the SX4 as it has been on sale since 2006 in sedan and crossover forms.

Suzuki has started work on the replacement for the SX4. Many SX4 hatchback mules have been spotted rigorously testing in Europe and Japan.

Our in-house rendering specialist Shoeb R Kalania has envisioned the 2013 Suzuki SX4 by looking at the spyshots available on the internet.

The new SX4 will be heavily influenced by the Suzuki Kizashi. The rendering features wide, swept back headlamps which have double barrel projectors. A wide trapezoid grill with horizontal plastic slats enhances the front fascia. Wide fog lamps housing with circular lamps on either side on the grill give it a very sporty stance. The aggressively rising roofline will continue to feature on the new model as well. Most of the side profile features will continue to exist in the replacement.

There are various speculations on the internet that Suzuki has based the new SX4 on the Kizashi platform. Note that this information is unverified and the Suzuki Swift's platform can also be stretched to build a car of the SX4's size.

If the Kizashi platform claim is true, we can expect some great driving dynamics from the replacement model. It will feature an all new interior layout that is simple and fresh with soft touch materials. It will have more space for both passengers and their luggage.

Engine options are very much a mystery now but we can expect engines ranging from 1.6L to 2.0L in the petrol variants and the Multijet options for diesel engines. Both manual and CVT gearboxes will be on offer.

The previous SX4 was developed in collaboration with Fiat. But Suzuki has taken over the development of the new generation model completely. Fiat is likely to use the 500X or Trekking to replace the Sedici.

Suzuki needs to introduce a very clear USP for the SX4. Currently, the SX4 is jack of all trades but a master of none. This lack of USP is very evident in its sales number in India.
