2014 Suzuki SX4 S-Cross engine specs released; diesel motor is a Fiat MultiJet

Yesterday we brought you the spyshots of the 2014 Suzuki SX4 S-Cross which was caught testing in Italy.

The new car which made its world premiere at the Geneva show earlier this year has clearly graduated a segment above. While the outgoing car was a B Segment contender, the new car will compete with C Segment crossovers such as the Nissan Qashqai.

So far, Suzuki was secretive about the car's engine specifications. All we knew is the car comes with a 1.6 petrol and diesel engines. The Japanese car maker has now announced that the 1.6 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine develops 120hp and 156 Nm of torque. The diesel engine is the 1.6 litre Fiat MultiJet unit which produces an identical 120hp. The peak torque generated is an impressive 320 Nm.

The petrol motor delivers a combined fuel economy of 18.51kpl when mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The diesel variant has a combined fuel economy of 23.08kpl.

The 2014 Suzuki SX4 S-Cross will go on sale in the Europe shortly and will leverage the world's new found interest in anything that is classified as a crossover. The car will be made in Suzuki's facility in Hungary.

Maruti Suzuki has to make do with the current SX4 until the sedan version of the new car arrives.
