Engine options for the 2014 Toyota Corolla (India-bound) announced
Toyota have announced four engine options for the new Corolla in the European market. As we've discussed the new Corolla at length in past stories, let's jump right into the engine options.
The base Corolla gets a 1.33-liter Dual VVT-i engine (the same engine powers the iQ, the smallest Toyota in the world) that makes 98hp and 128Nm. Paired to a six-speed transmission, it delivers a fuel efficiency of 5.6L/100km (17.85km/l).
The second variant is the 1.6-liter Dual VVT-i which is rated at 120hp and 154Nm with a fuel efficiency of 6.6L/100km (15.15km/l). The third variant, a derivative, is the 1.6-liter Valvematic engine which puts out 130hp and 160Nm with a fuel consumption figure of 6L/100km (16.66km/l).
The fourth and most powerful petrol engine is the 1.8-liter Dual VVT-i that is married to a Multidrive S automatic transmission. The engine here delivers 138hp and 173Nm with a fuel consumption of 6.4L/100km (15.62km/l).
The fifth and most important engine would be the big-selling motor in India. The same 1.4 D-4D turbodiesel from the current generation takes its place on the incoming Corolla too. The unit develops 89hp and 205Nm to return a fuel economy of 3.8L/100km (26.31km/l). This engine is also available with Toyota's six-speed Multimode transmission (that uses an electronically operated clutch) and Stop-Start motor.
The Corolla goes on sale in the coming weeks in three variants namely Live, Active and Lounge.
