Japan - 2014 Toyota Sai goes on sale
The 2014 Toyota Sai was launched in Japan yesterday. The Sai, which was launched in 2009, is a hybrid sedan nearly as big as a Toyota Camry. Toyota also sells a Lexus version of the Sai called the Lexus HS in the Japanese market.
The refreshed Sai now sports a completely different front fascia and looks far more aggressive than its predecessor. The Toyota logo on the grille is in the customary blue color for a hybrid vehicle. The sedan sports new LED headlights and an all new grille.
The refresh also brings new bumpers, new combination lights at the rear, a differently designed bootlid and 16-inch aluminium wheels. Three new exterior colors have been added and they are called Red Mica Metallic, Grey Mica Metallic and Clear Stream Metallic.
Inside, the refreshed Sai gets a redesigned interior using what the manufacturer claims "higher quality materials". A wood grain trim with redesigned switchgear and an optional 10-speaker stereo system with navigation, Blu-ray compatibility and USB ports are the other changes.
Power for the Sai comes from a 2.4-liter engine and an electric motor assisting it. Combined performance figures stand at 190PS and a Japanese official fuel efficiency rating of 22.4km/l.
The prices of the 2014 Sai start from 3,210,000 yen (INR 21.77 lakhs).
