2014 VW Passat will target the Mercedes C-Class
The existing VW Passat is a seventh generation model that is due for an update in about two years. AutoBild.de brings us a slew of information on the 2014 VW Passat:
- The new VW Passat will be based on the MQB architecture
- It will adopt styling cues from the VW Cross Coupe concept
- It will sit on a wider track thus liberating more interior space
- The new Passat is expect to shed 75kg from its overall weight
- VW is going to pitch it against the Mercedes C Class in terms of features and target audience
- VW also plans to keep the different body styles such as Sedan, Estate and CC for the new Passat
- The CC version will be prepped to take on the upcoming BMW 4 Series coupe
- A convertible version with a metal folding roof is also a possibility
- 1.4 -, 1.8 - and 2.0-liter TSI engines will be plonked with power ranging from 130 hp to 250 hp
- A 2.0 TDI with a new bi-turbo TDI will appear in the list of oil burners with power ranging from 170 hp to 200 hp
- Hybrid and Electric drive-lines are also in the pipeline
