Spied - 2014 Yamaha FZ-16 caught undisguised

The Yamaha FZ-16 and FZ-S have been running without any major uprades since their launch last decade. The brawny looking family of 153cc motorcycles which also includes the faired Fazer, is in need of an major product overhaul and things have finally started looking bright for prospective customers.

Yamaha had showcased a near production FZ-S Concept at the Auto Expo and the bike has been spotted in public already. Here is another unclothed spyshot of what appears to be the 2014 Yamaha FZ-16. Just like the current models, the new FZ-S is expected to add a small visor and body decals to the FZ-16 for a premium of few thousands.

The 2014 FZ-16 gets quite a few cosmetic upgrades most significant of which are the split seats and a new tailpiece complete with revised grab rail, taillight and license plate enclosure. The tyre-hugging splatter guard, revised exhaust end can are other newbies in the rear part of the vehicle.

Coming to the front, the updated motorcycle sports a completely new headlamp design with touches of body colored inserts but mind you, the FZ-16 is still a proper naked street fighter. Shape of the pseudo-fuel tank remains the same (actual fuel tank is located further lower, close to the bike's center-of-gravity while what you see in the usual place is a plastic body shell) but the fenders with air-intakes are new.

The 153 cc air-cooled engine is expected to march forward with the 5-speed transmission. The current version of the motor develops 14 PS and 13.6 Nm of torque but the updated bikes could receive a tweak.

The pre-festive season period is a good time to begin dealer dispatch of the new FZ series.
