Audi will launch the next generation of its flagship SUV, the Q7, next year, Indian Autos Blog was told by Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, member of the Board of Management of Audi AG and head of Audi’s Technical Development.

Seen here is a Carscoops rendering of the second generation Q7 with a less bulkier appearance compared to today's model. Influencing the general design of the SUV will be Audi's Allroad Shooting Brake concept and the TT Offroad concept. Like newer Audis, the Q7 is expected to get the Matrix headlight system as well.

The new Q7 is rumored to have lost close to 360 kg and will come with a plug-in hybrid variant.

The new Q7 is based on the VW Group's MLB platform, which uses light-weight, yet structurally strong materials, like high-tensile strength aluminium in the construction of the car. As a result, the weight is expected to dip by about 360 kg compared to the current model, making the new Q7 more dynamic to drive and yet frugal.

Powering the car would be six- and eight-cylinder petrol and diesel engines mated to a dual clutch automatic transmission. Audi's new 3.0-liter TDI V6 Clean Diesel engine could also debut on the Q7 range.

Audi in India currently assemble the Q7 at the Aurangabad facility from CKD kits, and this should continue to the newer model when it goes on sale next year.
