The 2015 Ford Edge which would go on sale in over 100 markets has been revealed in the US early this morning. Ford claim that the second generation crossover SUV is all-new from wheels to roof.

The 2015 Ford Edge Sport gets black grille, roof and alloy wheels.

Based on the global mid-size platform that also underpins the Fusion (Mondeo), the Edge gets a completely new design treatment. The new hexagonal front grill and secondary airdam, wraparound headlamps and front splitter transforms the SUV's visual appeal.

On the side, the crossover gets bold character lines. The new rear fascia has interlinked angular taillights that employ LEDs, chrome finished twin exhaust tops, and a black diffuser. The interior too is completely revamped to give a contemporary feel.

The new Edge packs in a long list of equipment.

Under the skin, the high-strength steel chassis makes the new model 26% stiffer than the outgoing car and the torsional rigidity has been improved by 16%. The SUV benefits from a new integral-link independent rear suspension with coil springs and an anti-roll bar.

Power comes from a set of three petrol engines - a 2.0-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost which delivers an estimated 245 PS, a 2.7-litre V6 EcoBoost that has over 300 PS and a 3.5-litre normally aspirated V6 petrol engine that produces 285 PS. All motors are mated to a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

The dashboard design is completely revamped.

The salient features of the new Edge include adaptive steering system, active grille shutter, adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support, auto start/stop, Blind Sport Information System, 180-degree front camera, cross traffic alert, active park assist, handsfree tailgate and so on. The car also comes with a plethora of electronic safety equipment.

The 2015 Ford Edge will go on sale in the US early next year and the other markets would receive the new gen crossover eventually. The Edge won't make it to India since the market for an expensive 5 seater SUV is very narrow in India, though this car will be made in RHD. Ford India would bring the next gen Endeavour next year to compete in the INR 20 lakh SUV segment.
