New Ford Figo hatchback to launch in India "few months" after Aspire - IAB Report
Will be the second product to be made at the Sanand plant.
Part of Ford India's three-model onslaught in the next 9 months is the new Ford Figo hatchback, what is sold in the Brazilian market as the Ford Ka. The 2015 Figo hatchback will be the second product to be manufactured at the Sanand plant, and is expected to launch in the festive season period this year (September-November).
Speaking to Indian Autos Blog about the market launch of the 2015 Ford Figo hatch, Mr. Nigel Harris, President and Managing Director of Ford India, said -
It's a few months later. We'll do a drive with you guys, its a couple of months away, so there's a few months gap between the two of them [between Figo Aspire and hatchback].
The 2015 Figo is expected to borrow its engines from the Figo Aspire. These include a 1.2-liter Ti-VCT petrol with 88 PS, a 1.5-liter Ti-VCT petrol mated exclusively to a 6-speed Powershift DCT, and a 1.5-liter TDCi diesel developing 100 PS and 215 Nm of torque.
The 2015 Figo will compete with the Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Celerio, Maruti Swift (lower variants), Chevrolet Beat, and the forthcoming Tata Kite hatchback. The vehicle's exports to South Africa was announced in May.
