Confirmed for South Africa with petrol and diesel engines.

Ford of South Africa have just confirmed the all-new Ford Figo hatchback and full-size sedan for their market. Both cars will launch in South Africa in the last quarter of this year, the company has confirmed.

For the Indian market, the new Figo twins are expected to use a 1.2-liter TiVCT petrol and a 1.5-liter diesel engine.

Further, Ford India's new Sanand plant will be responsible for exporting the hatchback and the sedan, as Ford India's Chennai plant already exports the Figo, Classic (badged Ikon) and EcoSport to this market.

Technical details of the new Figo hatchback remain unannounced, but a press release issued by Ford South Africa confirms the availability of petrol and diesel engines, and manual and automatic transmissions. Sources say that the Figo hatch will inherit the 1.2-liter TiVCT petrol and the 1.5-liter TDCi diesel from the Figo Aspire, which is expected to launch in India next month.

The Figo hatch borrows its features from the Figo Aspire, but also adds ESP and Hill Launch Assist.

Compared to the current Figo, the new Figo's range will be broader thanks to the addition of more derivatives and specification levels, Ford says in its press release. A programmable MyKey, automatic climate control, Bluetooth with Voice Activation, ABS, ESP, Hill Launch Assist and optional side airbags in addition to standard dual front airbags are the features that will be available on the new Figo hatchback in South Africa.
