2015 Hyundai Sonata launched at INR 24.64 lakhs - Malaysia

After a teasing spree, the 2015 Hyundai Sonata has been launched in Malaysia at a starting price of RM 130,000 (around INR 24.64 lakhs). The top-end variant retails for RM 154,000 (around INR 27.30 lakhs).
Compared to the previous gen sedan, the new Sonata measures 35 mm longer at 4,855 mm, 30 mm wider at 1,865 mm and has a wheelbase which is longer by 10 mm at 2,805 mm. The boot can swallow 510 litres of luggage.
According to the company, the extensive usage (51%) of high-tensile steel in the construction has resulted in 41% greater torsional rigidity and 35% greater bending strength compared to its predecessor. The styling follows the 'Fluidic Sculpture V2.0' design philosophy.
Propelling the Malaysian Sonata is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine generating 154 PS (151.8 bhp) and 194 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The entry level D-segment sedan is available in three variants - Elegance B, Elegance and Executive. Standard features include dual front airbags, ABS, ESC, Hill Start Control, DRLs, 17-inch alloy wheels, leather seats, powered driver seat, keyless entry and go, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, automatic headlamps and a Smart Trunk System.
A Hyundai India official told Indian Autos Blog earlier that the company needs to increase the brand value of the Sonata nameplate before fielding the new gen model in the country.
