Germany - 2015 Mercedes C Class released, priced from 28.66 lakhs

The 2015 Mercedes C-Class is revealed and order books open today in Germany. The model range is made of the C 180 from 33,558 euros (28.66 lakh rupees), the C 200 from 36,414 euros (31.10 lakh rupees) and the C 220 BlueTEC from 38,675 euros (33.03 lakh rupees).

The 2015 C-Class is 80 mm longer in wheelbase (2,840 mm) compared to the outgoing car, is 95 mm longer (4,686 mm) and 40 mm wider (2,840 mm). The boot capacity has improved to 480 liters.

The design of the front-end is defined by emotional headlamps, the side by a long bonnet and set-back passenger compartment, and the rear by an S-Class inspired boot and stoplight arrangement. The body's Cd value is rated at 0.24.

There are two types of grilles available, one with a centrally positioned star, and (for the exclusive variant line) a classic Mercedes star on the bonnet. H7 halogen bulbs come standard, and two LED light options - static and dynamic - are available.

The interior features a new central console, and a centrally mounted 7-inch screen (an 8.4-inch screen if COMAND Online is opted). The switchgear features a 3D design and there's a generous application of wood on the central console and leather on the dashboard.

For the first time, a touchpad has been brought into the C-Class which can control smartphone functions through gestures for numbers, letters and special characters. Head-Up display that projects important information on the driver's field of vision is another first.

The new C-Class is about 100 kg lighter than the outgoing model, and has a 20 percent higher fuel efficiency. The vehicle's center of gravity is also lower. 50 percent of the body shell is made of aluminium, compared to 10 percent on the outgoing car.

Available in C 220 BlueTEC (diesel), C 180 and C 200, all variants are equipped with start-stop and comply with Euro 6 emission standards.

The C 220 BlueTEC features a 2,143cc engine that puts out 170 hp and 400 Nm, sprints from 0-100 kph in 8.1 seconds with a fuel efficiency of 25 kpl.

The C 180 variant features a 1,595 cc petrol engine that develops 156 hp and 250 Nm, sprints from 0-100 kph in 8.2 seconds with a fuel efficiency of 20 kpl.

The C 200 variant is powered by a 1,991 cc petrol engine which delivers 184 hp and 300 Nm, with a 0-100 kph sprint time of 7.5 seconds and fuel efficiency of 18.86 kpl.

All engines are paired either to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual clutch 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission. 4MATIC full-time all wheel drive is as an option.

The company has also planned a 1.6-liter diesel and a hybrid variant for the future (more details in the press release)

The C-Class is the first vehicle in its category to be fitted with an air suspension (AIRMATIC). Electric parking brake will come standard and so will an electromechanical Direct Steer system (previously a hydraulic unit was used).

ATTENTION ASSIST, Adaptive Brake Assist, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist, BAS PLUS Brake Assist System, PRE-SAFE Brake and Active Lane Keeping Assist are some of the driving assistance systems on the new C-Class.
