Thailand Live - 2015 Mitsubishi Triton
The 2015 Mitsubishi Triton received its motor show debut at the Thailand International Motor Expo 2014 today. The new gen pickup emerges nine years after its predecessor entered production in Thailand.
The front fascia of the new Triton is characterized by a prominent chrome grille, an interesting headlamp design with integrated daytime LED running lights and a high mounted bumper with circular foglights and a silver skid plate.
The designers have not bothered to give the pickup a new silhouette but the vehicle retains its brawny stance. A new tailgate complete with larger wraparound combination lights round off the exterior changes. The Triton is available in Single, Double and Club Cab variants.
Inside, the dashboard carries forward its layout but the design has been revamped. The pickup gains new steering wheel, instrument binnacle, centre console with larger infotainment screen and AC vents, and revised door pads.
The ladder frame chassis benefits from RISE impact safety body technology which is claimed to improve the vehicle's crash worthiness. Propulsion is courtesy of a new 2.4-liter turbo diesel which is capable of 181 PS (178.45 bhp) and 430 Nm of torque. The second diesel engine option is a 2.5-litre turbo unit delivering 178 PS (175.4 bhp) and 400 Nm. A 2.4-litre motor outputting 128 PS (12.1 bhp) and 194 Nm of torque is the lone petrol option.
Depending on the engine, the Triton can be had with a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic transmission. The pickup comes with a 4WD system which can be disabled when not required.
The new Triton is made in Thailand and will eventually be exported to markets in regions of ASEAN, Oceania, Middle East, Europe, Africa and Latin America.
