2015 Volvo XC90 bookings start in India for INR 10 lakhs - IAB Report [Update - Not yet open, says company]

Update - Volvo Auto India today issued a statement that it has not opened bookings for the new XC90 -

The report of pre-booking opening and the launch date in India for New XC90 is not correct. Volvo Auto India has not communicated any such information either directly or through their PR partners, Integral PR. Neither the price mentioned in the reported news is authenticated by Volvo Cars. Volvo Auto India would communicate at an opportune time the necessary details including the information related to pre-booking, official launch and the price of the New XC90 in India through appropriate channels.

A single diesel engine option will be available in India.

Dealers of Volvo Auto India have started accepting bookings for the new Volvo XC90, ahead of a launch planned around April. The booking amount is INR 10 lakhs, and deliveries will start by July, IAB was told by dealers when contacted.

The new XC90 is the first car to be based on the Volvo SPA platform.

One dealer communicated that the company is planning on importing 20 units of the SUV in its top-spec variant, with 11 already having been booked. Customers are told that the introductory price of the new XC90 will be in the range of INR 85 lakhs, and this would increase to INR 90-95 lakhs post the launch period.

For the Indian market, Volvo will be launching the GL Class competitor with a 1,969 cc inline four-cylinder twin-turbocharged diesel engine capable of 225 bhp at 4,250 rpm and 470 Nm of torque mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission sending power to all wheels.

The initial units will be range-topping models with features like a Tesla Model S inspired touchscreen display with Google Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, an Orrefors-designed gearlever, four-zone climate control, voice recognition, powered seats and a high-end music system.

The new XC90 gets a large touchscreen display, 4-zone climate control and a gear knob designed by Swedish glass maker, Orrefors.

Based on the new SPA (Scalable Platform Architecture) platform, the new XC90 measures 4,950 mm in length, 1,923 mm in width and 1,776 mm in height.
