IAB Report - 2015 Volvo XC90 teaser shows the 'Thor's Hammer' daytime running lights
The new Volvo XC90 is the first car to be based on the firm's homegrown modular SPA platform.
In what is the first in a series of teasers, Volvo has revealed the headlamps of the 2015 Volvo XC90 which is set to be unveiled in Stockholm in two weeks' time. The SUV will have its motor show debut at the Paris Motor Show in October and the interior has already been revealed.
The teaser image shows the new XC90's headlamp and a part of the grille. Volvo's designers call the T-shaped LED daytime running lights as Thor's Hammer. The headlight elements are also made up of a cluster of LEDs, giving it a concept-like look. The chrome finished grille is composed of vertical slats.
The SUV is the first model to be built on the brand's modular Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) which will underpin all the future Volvos starting from the 60-series upwards. The company says, irrespective of the complexity, various models can be built on the same assembly line.
Power comes from a new family of downsized Volvo Engine Architecture (VEA) four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The top-end variant would be powered by a 2-litre four-cylinder supercharged and turbocharged petrol engine which is combined with an electric motor to deliver a power output of 400 PS (394.3 bhp) while having a low emission of just 60 g/km of CO2.
