India-bound VW Passat B8 snapped in Malaysia ahead of launch - Spied
80 mm longer in wheelbase over the previous generation model.
Ahead of its launch in Malaysia early next year, the all-new 2015 VW Passat (B8) was snapped on Malaysian roads with trade number plates. Unveiled in July last year, countries like Malaysia and India are expected to get the new generation sedan only in 2016.
Based on the MQB platform, the 2015 Passat is 85 kg lighter than its predecessor and is exclusively sold with four-cylinder TDI and TSI engines only.
Despite the reduced weight, the new Passat is 12 mm wider and 80 mm longer in wheelbase over the previous model, and promises better interior space. Boot capacity has also increased by 21 liters to 586 liters.
While the Passat is available internationally with five TSI and three TDI engines, VW India will likely employ a 2.0-liter TDI engine paired to a DSG transmission and a front-wheel drive layout.

For the Indian market, VW India has announced the Passat to be one among its four new models planned for the country within the next 2 years. A launch is expected in the first half of 2016, though this time, localization levels are expected to be higher.
