Report - Volkswagen releases first sketches of the India-bound 2015 VW Passat
VW India earlier this year said they were keen to launch the next generation VW Passat in India at an appropriate time.
Today, Volkswagen released the first sketches of the all-new executive sedan, that is said to be launched in the coming months. Riding on the VW MQB Platform, the redesigned Passat sports a stylish front fascia, a prominent grille and angry looking headlamps.
The car's side profile is designed in a coupe-like fashion, and we can also observe accentuated wheel arches and dual exhaust in the drawings.
VW did not provide the interior look, but German media report it having a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a new infotainment system.
The 2015 Passat will come with a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine that generates 240 PS and 500 Nm, paired to a seven-speed DSG gearbox and an all-wheel drive system. The fuel efficiency is tipped to be around the 20 kpl mark in the European driving cycle.
A plug-in hybrid variant is planned for next year that uses a 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine and a 102 PS ouput electric motor. With a combined power output of 204 PS, the car gets a range of 50 km on pure electricity.
The Passat will launch with a range of other engines, whose outputs range between 120-280 PS.
