2016 Audi A5 - What to expect
World premiere on June 2.
Audi has confirmed that it will reveal the next-generation 2016 Audi A5 on June 2, in an event expected to take place at the Audi Forum located in the carmaker's hometown of Ingolstadt, Germany.
The second generation Audi A5 will be based on the B9 Audi A4, which is in the process of going on sale across international markets. Hence, the coupe will be based on its sedan sibling's MLB Evo platform, an architecture which is expected to reduce overall weight by up to 120 kg. And like the new A4, overall length and wheelbase dimensions of the 2016 A5 are expected to increase as well.
On the styling front, reports state that the 2016 A5 will feature a more edgier styling compared to the A4. Spyshots have shown the coupe with a Singleframe grille element, almost inspired by the 2016 Audi R8, sharply-designed headlight elements which will, no doubt, feature the Matrix lighting technology and a fastback-like roofline.
Under the hood, the 2016 Audi A5 will be powered by four- and six-cylinder engines. The lineup could start with the 1.4-liter TFSI, and extend to the 3.0-liter six-cylinder unit, whereas the diesel engine lineup would comprise of the 2.0-liter TDI four-cylinder and 3.0-liter V6 TDI units. Gearbox options are expected to include 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic gearbox, channeling drive to all-wheels via the Audi Quattro system on top-end variants.
