India-bound 2016 BMW 3 Series - Motorshow Focus
Gets the 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine option and a hybrid variant.
Following its online reveal in May, the 2016 BMW 3 Series was showcased at the 2015 Thailand Motor Expo. The car has received minor updates on the exterior and under the hood.
The front gets Bi-Xenon headlamps as standard with adaptive LED available as options; the L-shaped tail lights are imbued with redesigned LED clusters. The front bumper features revised air intakes with the rear ones modified as well.
The interior retains the driver-oriented layout with splashes of chrome seen on the AC vents, door trims, steering wheel and center console. A shiny gloss-black finish has also been used on the center console adding to the premium feel.
A new 340i variant has replaced the 335i for 2016. This new addition is powered by a new 3.0-liter inline-six gasoline engine producing 326 hp and 450 Nm of torque. At the other end of the variant line, in comes the 1.5-liter three cylinder gasoline turbo unit capable of 136 hp and 220 Nm (230 Nm in overboost) of peak torque on the 318i. Other engines have been carried over like the 2.0-litre four cylinder petrol and diesel engines churning out outputs of 252 hp / 350 Nm and 190 hp / 400 Nm respectively. Transmission options are a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic.
A 330e PHEV will also be added to the range in 2016. It will draw power from a 2.0-liter four cylinder turbo petrol engine and an electric motor with combined output of 248 hp / 420 Nm of torque. The 3 Series facelift comes with standard features such as lane change warning, driver assist, head-up display, ConnectedDrive navigation with real time traffic information and rear view camera.
