Unveil expected at 2016 Paris Motor Show in October.

Theophilus Chin has posted a couple of renderings of the next generation 2016 BMW 5 Series (codename - BMW G30), which is expected to break cover at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October.

The design appears to take a small, evolutionary step from the outgoing model.

In the rendering, the design appears to take a small, evolutionary step up from the outgoing model, featuring cues from the latest BMW 7 Series flagship. The front-end will feature sleek LED headlamps (optional laser lighting), large BMW kidney grille with active ducts, and simple bumper designs, while the rear-end gets OLED taillamps and cutouts for chrome finished tailpipes.

One of the biggest changes will be the new BMW CLAR RWD platform, which integrates materials such as carbon fibre, aluminium, magnesium and high-strength steel. The next BMW 5 Series will, reportedly, weigh 100 kg lesser than the current model, aiding fuel consumption, acceleration and handling.

One of the biggest changes in the 2016 BMW 5 Series will be the CLAR RWD platform underneath.

Reports suggest that the engines will include the latest B47 diesel and B48 petrol 2.0-litre four-cylinder units. More powerful variants are likely be offered with the B57 quad-turbo V6 diesel and B58 petrol 3.0-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder units. There will also be a 444 bhp 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine in the top-end BMW M550i variant and two hybrid variants: BMW 530e and BMW 540e.
