2016 BMW 7 Series launched at INR 1.11 Crore - Auto Expo 2016

The base 7 Series variants are assembled in India at the Chennai plant. 

The 2016 BMW 7 Series has been launched at the Auto Expo 2016. The automaker’s flagship luxury sedan was unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The new 7 Series is priced as follows:

The new 7 Series is based on the CLAR platform that is made from what BMW calls ‘Carbon Core’ technology. The body is made from a combination of steel, aluminum and Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP). The luxury sedan has the distinction of being the first mass-produced car to integrate carbon fiber in its construction. It has resulted in the car being 130 kg lighter than its predecessor, while simultaneously having improved levels of strength and rigidity.

The interior is luxurious and has a classy look with a reduced button count. A mix of leather and wooden trim is seen adorning the cabin. The dashboard and three-spoke steering wheel are wrapped in leather with the seats featuring Dakota or Nappa leather. The center console houses the iDrive controller and controls for the HVAC system.

The 2016 BMW 7 Series is equipped with the iDrive 5.0 infotainment system that, for the first time, comes equipped with gesture controls. Other features that come as standard are individually power-adjustable rear seats, large head-up display and inductive smartphone charging.

For the Indian market, the 2016 BMW 7 Series is offered with the 4.4-liter TwinPower turbo V8 petrol developing 450 hp / 650 Nm of torque, or a 3.0-liter TwinPower turbo inline-6 diesel unit that pushes out 265 hp and 620 Nm of peak torque. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox, driving the rear wheels.
