Based on the new rear-wheel drive 35up flexible architecture, the European media report that the sedan has shed nearly 200 kg thanks to the use of carbon fiber and high-strength aluminium in its construction. Further, this particular architecture will be adopted for successors to the 3, 4, 5 and 6 Series.

BMW would be breaking tradition by offering an entry-level four-cylinder variant on the new 7-er dubbed the 740i, according to reports. This aside, the regular lineup will feature V6 and V8 variants, a flagship V12 variant and plug-in hybrid(s).
