India-bound 2016 BMW X1's front and rear fascias revealed - Spied
Based on the new Mini's front wheel drive platform.
The second generation BMW X1 is expected to be revealed this year, mostly at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September given that it is the largest motor show this year. However, impatient fans can have a look at the front and rear of the new crossover thanks to these revealing spyshots from Auto Home.
Clearly, the design of the new 2016 X1 does not mark a departure from the current generation model, or even BMW's current design language. In fact, one could mistake the new X1 for the older model based on the front bumper, which looks nearly unchanged.
Despite its resemblance to its predecessor, the new X1 is an altogether different vehicle as it is based on the front wheel drive UKL architecture also seen on the new Mini which went on sale in India in November 2014. The model spotted here comes with the optional xDrive all-wheel drive system, but will have a front wheel drive bias nonetheless.
Engine options are likely to start from 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol and diesel units, extending to 2.0-liter four-cylinder motors of both fuels. A 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic will be the transmissions of choice, while India would only get the latter.
