2016 BMW X1 PHEV with 7 seats - IAB Rendering
Based on the FWD UKL platform.
BMW is currently working on an extended version of the 2016 BMW X1, which is expected to launch in 2016. Most of the extended-wheelbase prototypes photographed had a "Hybrid Test Vehicle" sticker on them, suggesting that the X1 Grand (name unconfirmed) will feature a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.
Based on spyshots, IAB's rendering artist, Shoeb R Kalania has worked on the upcoming BMW X1 Grand. Compared to the regular X1, it features different bumpers, redesinged head and taillights, and an updated roofline.
The plug-in hybrid powertrain could be similar to the one in the BMW 225xe Active Tourer, which has a 134 bhp 1.5-liter three-cylinder TwinPower turbo engine and an 88 PS electric motor. Total system output is 221.2 bhp and peak torque of 385 Nm, while transmission is a 6-speed auto for the combustion engine and a 2-speed unit for the electric motor.
It is also likely to carryover the engine lineup from the regular model, which includes 2.0-liter petrol and turbodiesel engines. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic, while an xDrive system is available in higher variants.
