Will debut a new design language, reportedly.

A new render from Autobild magazine of the next generation BMW X3 offers an insight into its possible exterior design which will, reportedly, be influenced by a new design language.

The exterior design could adopt a more-aggressive design that will be a revolutionary step up over the outgoing F25 X3.

Codenamed internally as G01, the next generation BMW X3 will ride on the RWD CLAR platform that underpins the latest BMW 7 Series and next generation models from 3 Series and above. The new platform will make use of carbon fiber in load-bearing areas, helping reduce weight by up to 100 kg over the current generation.

The exterior design could adopt a more-aggressive design that will be a revolutionary step up over the outgoing F25 X3. The interiors, as with every generation change, would be improved, and one can expect the new X3 to offer more room for passengers, improved equipment like iDrive 5.0 with touch and air gestures, Head Up Display, and ambient lighting.

Details on the next gen X3's engine lineup are scarce at the moment, but reports suggest that it will feature the latest B47 diesel and B48 petrol 2.0-litre four-cylinder units. Top-end variants could get the B57 diesel and B58 petrol 3.0-litre six-cylinder units. It could be paired to a 9-speed ZF automatic, while an xDrive AWD system will be equipped in top-end models.

The new design of the X3 could be revealed as a concept in 2016, months before the production spec model breaks cover, which is reported to take place in 2017.
