According to a report on Autocar India, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) is on-track to launch the 2016 Hyundai Tucson in the market come September 2016. The publication reports HMIL is keen to achieve a localization of 50 percent for the SUV, and plans to price it in the region of INR 17-22 lakhs, ex-Showroom, New Delhi.

The Tucson for the Indian market is expected to be powered by a 2L diesel engine.

At these prices, the Tucson will fit perfectly between the Hyundai Creta and the Hyundai Santa Fe. It will rival the likes of the Mahindra XUV500, Ssangyong Rexton, base variants of the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, and the petrol-only Honda CR-V will also be a rival.

For the Indian market, the 2016 Tucson will likely be powered by a 2.0-liter CRDi engine which is available in power outputs of 136 PS and 184 PS, and with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. As the 2.0-liter diesel engine displaces 1,995 cc, it will allow HMIL to sell the Tucson in NCR and Kerala, should the ban on large diesel engines continue.
