2016 Hyundai Tucson SUV's sketch revealed ahead of Geneva premiere - IAB Report

Unlikely to launch in India.

Hyundai Motor has just revealed the first sketch of the all-new 2016 Hyundai Tucson ahead of its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The Korean car maker will no longer call the SUV the 'ix35', instead it plans on bringing back the 'Tucson' nameplate.

The new Tucson will be powered by turbocharged petrol and diesel engines paired to DCTs.

The new Tucson will be a global model, with revealing spyshots having already shown parts of its exterior and interior. An upright silhouette, sleek character lines and a distinctive chrome-framed hexagonal grille are some of the highlights of the SUV's design.

According to Peter Schreyer, President and Chief Design Officer of Hyundai Motor Group, the Tucson "will be a big step forward for the Hyundai brand globally." The Korean car maker has sold over one million SUVs in Europe since the introduction of the first Santa Fe in the early 2000s.

The company has not divulged details of the new Tucson's powertrain, but reports suggest modern turbocharged petrol and diesel engines paired to DCTs (dual-clutch transmission).

The new Tucson is unlikely to come to India, as Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) sells the Santa Fe at that price bracket. In fact, the Santa Fe replaced the Tucson in India in 2010.
