2016 Jeep Compact SUV (551) - Rendering

Successor to the Jeep Patriot and Compass.

Jeep is currently working on a new compact SUV (codenamed 551) that will replace the Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot in the company's product lineup. Based on spyshots of the test mules, Auto Esporte has come up with a rendering of the Jeep Compact SUV for a better insight as to what we can expect.

The Jeep Compact SUV (551) is expected to be at least 10 cm longer than the compact Jeep Renegade

In the render, it features a modern SUV styling that draws cues from the flagship Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Jeep Compass successor is expected to be at least 10 cm longer than the compact Jeep Renegade, and pose as an alternate option for customers who don't prefer its boxy styling.

Reports suggest that it will be based on FCA's Small Wide platform, which also underpins the Renegade. So  expect a wide range of engines sourced from the Jeep Renegade, which include a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol, 1.4-liter MultiAir turbo petrol, a larger 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder, and a 1.6-, 2.0- and 2.2-liter Multijet turbodiesels. As for transmission, Jeep will likely offer a 6-speed manual or 9-speed automatic gearbox. An AWD system could be equipped as standard in higher trim levels.

Ahead of its launch in international markets, Jeep will, reportedly, unveil the Compact SUV at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March.
