This year's Frankfurt Motor Show will see the world premiere of the fourth generation 2016 Kia Sportage, which will go on sale in Europe in the first quarter of 2016.

With a Cd of 0.33, the new Sportage is a tad aerodynamic than its predecessor.

Sharing underpinnings with the new Hyundai Tucson, which had its debut at this year's Geneva Motor Show, the 2016 Sportage is larger and more aerodynamic than its predecessor. At 4,480 mm in length and 2,670 mm in wheelbase, engineers have made the SUV longer by 40 mm and 30 mm respectively while drag has reduced from 0.35 to 0.33.

Coming to the powertrain, Kia will offer the Sportage with a 1.6-liter GDI and T-GDI engines with power outputs of 132 PS and 177 PS respectively. The diesel engine range comprises of a 1.7-liter 115 PS CRDi and a 2.0-liter CRDi with power outputs of 136 PS and 184 PS. These engines can be had with a 6-speed manual, an automatic or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

A top-end GT Line will be available on the new Sportage with optional 19-inch alloy wheels.

Noteworthy features include wireless charging of mobile devices, high beam assist, LED foglights, Autonomous Emergency Braking, 10-way power adjustable driver's seat, Blind Spot Detection and a 320 Watt JBL sound system.

The Sportage is not expected in the Indian market as Kia is not present in the country. However, the Tucson with which it shares platforms is reportedly under consideration by Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) as a rival to the Mahindra XUV500.
