To launch in July.

Undisguised images of the 2016 Mazda BT-50 pickup (facelift) have emerged on Thai web portals. The second gen BT-50, launched in 2010, is based on the chassis of the Ford Ranger T6, which received its mid-life refresh in March.

The 2016 Mazda BT-50 gets a more compact chrome-surround grille and new headlamp detailing.

Popular in Thailand, Australia and South Africa, the BT-50 gets the KODO design philosophy, with a newly detailed headlamp, smaller grille with chrome element, and a centrally placed badge for the 2016 model year. The indicator on the side mirror appear enlarged, and given this is the top-end variant, it sports large alloy wheels, chrome door handle and side step.

Current Mazda BT-50 added for comparison.

The Thai media are waiting for confirmation on the changes to the rear end, but say the taillight may be updated. Possibly the interior will also carry modifications for a better look. The central console may see a revision to host the Mazda MZD Connect infotainment system.

Engines are likely to be unchanged with the 3.2-liter five-cylinder diesel engine pressing on with an output of 197.1 hp and 470 Nm (Australian specification) matched to a 6-speed manual or 6-speed AT, and come in Single Cab, Extended Cab and Dual Cab guise. The pick of the features are 5 airbags, ABS, EBD, TCS, Hill launch and descent control, and 16-inch wheels.

The interior may undergo minor changes, and gain a new Mazda MZD Connect infotainment.

The 2016 Mazda BT-50 Pro, as per the local media, will be launched in July. The Toyota Hilux competitor is manufactured in Rayong, Thailand.
