Paris Live - 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata

Based on a new platform that sheds nearly 100 kg compared to its predecessor.

The 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata celebrates its motorshow debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The fourth generation of the iconic car was revealed last month and is announced to go on sale next year.

Based on a completely new platform that saves 100 kg of weight, the new MX-5's design is inspired by Mazda's Kodo design language. It is 105 mm shorter, 20 mm lower and 10 mm wider than the previous generation model.

In the new MX-5, engineers have managed to push the engine further back, thus making it more of a front-mid-engined car. Speaking of engines, the MX-5 will be offered with a 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter direct-injection gasoline engines paired to a 6-speed manual transmission which makes use of the company's SKYACTIV technology.

The drive is sent to the rear wheels. Mazda say the new MX-5 has a 50:50 weight distribution.

The prices, engine specifications and performance figures of the new MX-5 will be announced at a date closer to the car's market launch.
