2016 Mercedes E Class confirmed to debut at Detroit show - Report
Expected to go on sale in summer.
Mercedes Design chief Gorden Wagener has confirmed to Autocar that the next generation 2016 Mercedes E Class will make its world debut at the NAIAS 2016 (2016 Detroit Motor Show) in January.
Wagener describes the design of the next E Class as an "all-new design that is much more beautiful and modern, and much cleaner than even the C-Class and S-Class". Reports suggest that the new E Class will be 55 mm longer than the outgoing model, but has shorter overhangs to accommodate the stretched wheelbase in a similar overall length.
Inside, the dashboard gets two wide displays for the driver and COMAND infotainment services and a flowing wood trim with multiple small HVAC vents. The lower section, which includes the center console, appears to be inspired by the smaller C Class. Other features include ARTICO leather upholstery, Burmester audio system and ambient lighting.
Engine lineup will comprise of next generation 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engines (codename – OM654) alongside existing four-cylinder petrol engines. Higher variants will reportedly come with an all new range of 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbo engines, while a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 engine producing around 550 hp is expected to power the E63 AMG variant.
