2016 Mercedes E Class to world debut at NAIAS 2016 - Report

Can be expected in India in H2 2016.

The next generation 2016 Mercedes E-Class (codename: W213) will have its world premiere at the next North American International Auto Show in Detroit that starts on January 11, 2016, says a new report from Mercedes-Benz Passion.

Web reports say the 2016 E Class would be up to 150 kg lighter while having the ability to park with smartphone commands.

The next-gen model in the saloon version will be available for pre-order soon after the world premiere. The E-Class Estate (T-Modell) could world premiere about six months later, indicates the report. The two-door coupe and cabriolet versions should arrive later, possibly in 2017.

The 2016 Mercedes E-Class is built upon the MRA platform (Mercedes Rear-wheel Architecture) with exterior and interior design inspired from the latest generation S-Class and C-Class. While the current gen E-Class has tighter surface and harder edges, the new model is curvier and more flowing.

The new E-Class would shed the sharp design for a curvier and softer approach in the new generation.

Inside, a new larger touchscreen display for the COMAND Infotainment System with touchpad controls instead of a rotary knob will find a place, amidst trims and design mimicking the S-Class. The new S-Class' digital instrument cluster could also be borrowed by the newcomer.

Powertrains will be a mix of old and new, and include four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engine, and an AMG variant featuring the twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 engine borrowed from the Mercedes-AMG GT. The base variant, like the C-Class, could use the Renault-sourced 1.6-liter diesel engine offering ultra-low emissions.
