Spied - Next gen Mercedes GLC (GLK) caught on tape

To adopt new naming system.

The launch of the smaller crossover GLA gives Mercedes-Benz a little room to play with. So now the GLK can become a little bigger and even reach markets where it wasn't present before. Behold the next gen Mercedes GLC. Caught on tape by IAB reader Toldi, here's the next generation GLK (to be known as GLC given Merc's new naming system) undergoing on-road testing in Europe, hidden under camouflage.

The 2016 Mercedes GLC is based on the brand's Modular Rear-wheel drive Architecture (MRA) that underpins the new C-Class. It is likely to be bigger than the current GLK, and unlike in the past when it was made only in LHD (Left Hand Drive) configuration, the new gen crossover will be made in RHD version as well.

The new gen crossover is likely to grow in size to distance itself from the compact GLA.

And it will be brought to India, as mentioned by Mercedes-Benz India CEO Eberhard Kern. Powering the vehicle in India are likely to be the same engines as the ones on the C-Class (the new saloon hasn't been launched with its full engine range yet). The AMG version of the GLC is being tested as well, and that would in all likeliness use a 4-litre V8 powerplant.

Reported to go on sale in Europe in late 2015, the GLC is expected to reach India sometime in 2016.
