2016 Mercedes S Class Cabriolet unveiled, world premiere at 2015 IAA - IAB Report

Touted as the world's most comfortable convertible.

Ahead of its world premiere at the 2015 IAA in Frankfurt, Mercedes has unveiled the final variant of the S Class range that aims to redefine the super luxury convertible segment - the Mercedes S Class Cabriolet.

The exterior and interior designs of the Mercedes S Class Cabriolet are identical to its hard top twin brother, Mercedes S Class Coupe, save for the chopped roof. The S Class Cabrio adopts a fabric roof top, which takes 20 seconds to fold completely, and can be opened/closed on the move at speeds up to 60 km/h.

The 2-door 2+2 Mercedes S Class Cabriolet comes with an automatic wind protection system dubbed AIRCAP which reduces turbulence inside, AIRSCARF neck-level heating, heated armrests, seat heaters for the rear seats and a THERMOTRONIC intelligent automatic climate control that detects the ideal climate for the cabin via 12 sensors and 18 actuators.

Other features from the S Class Coupe include dual 12.1 inch displays for the instrument cluster and COMAND infotainment system, Nappa leather upholstery, AIR-BALANCE Package, and a Burmester audio system.

Under the hood, the S Class Cabrio is available with two engine options. The standard S 500 Cabrio packs a 4.7-liter twin turbo V8 producing 455 hp and 700 Nm from 1800 rpm, and is paired to a 9G-TRONIC gearbox (9-speed automatic).

The range-topping Mercedes-AMG S 63 Cabrio comes with a 5.5-liter twin turbo V8 capable of 585 hp and 900 Nm of torque, and coupled to a 7G-DCT (7-speed dual clutch). Power is sent to all four wheel via a 4MATIC AWD system, and it is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.

Following its unveil in Frankfurt, the Mercedes S Class Cabrio will go on sale in December in its home market, while market launches around the globe will begin from Spring 2016.
