2016 Mercedes SLC - IAB Rendering

Previously called Mercedes SLK.

Mercedes-Benz will soon introduce a small facelift to the current SLK roadster, with one of the biggest changes being a new name - Mercedes SLC.

Changes include a new grille, updated headlamps and taillamps, and reworked bumpers at both ends.

Based on recent spyshots, IAB's rendering artist, Shoeb R Kalania, has come up with a render of the Mercedes SLC, which highlights the exterior changes brought by the refresh. Up front, it gets an updated pair of headlights with LED DRLs, an A-Class inspired "Diamond" grille, and a new bumper design with re-profiled intakes. The rear will sport a re-designed LED taillight cluster, and a re-worked bumper housing a dual exhaust system.

The interior of the Mercedes SLC hasn't been spotted yet, although we surmise that it will feature Merc's new 3-spoke steering wheel design, an updated instrument cluster and new upholstery colors. It will be one of the few Mercs which has the new COMAND infotainment display integrated into the dashboard, rather than a freestanding display as seen in the latest range.

Mercedes may drop the full-fledged AMG version, and introduce a less powerful AMG Sport version.

On the subject of the engine lineup, it will continue to source power from a range of 2.0-liter four cylinder motors in the 181 hp SLC 200 and 242 hp SLC 300. The 3.5-liter twin turbo V6 will power the standard SLC 400 and the SLC 450 AMG Sport. It's unclear if Mercedes will introduce a full fledged SLC 63 AMG with a 4.0L twin-turbo V8.

Reports suggest that the Mercedes SLC will make its debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, where the C-Class Coupe and GLC are being shown as well. Another likely location for the introduction of the SLC is at the 2015 Los Angeles Motor Show, given the market preference for roadsters in the region.
