The 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport/Challenger/Montero Sport was unveiled at the BIG Motor Sale in Thailand last Saturday, and here are some images shared by one of our Thai readers.

The car boasts of many features never before seen on a Mitsubishi. Sales of the SUV will commence this fall in Thailand followed by Australia, ASEAN countries, Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Russia in a sequence that will eventually see it go into 90 countries around the globe. For Thailand, the Pajero Sport will come in three variants GLS, GT and GT AWD.

The fascia gets the “Dynamic Shield” design having slim headlights incorporating a thin strip of LEDs while the rear end gets abnormally long and slender looking tail lights that extend all the way down to the bumper.

The interior is modeled after the Mitsubishi Triton, but with considerable changes, and gets a 4-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a center console bearing a flowing design with silver strips running on either side. The console is finished in Gloss Black and is dominated by a touch screen infotainment system. There is a generous helping of chrome inside the cabin with embellishments seen on the side air-con vents, door trims and the steering wheel.

With a wheelbase of 2,800 mm, it measures 4,785 mm long (90 mm longer), 1,815 mm wide, and 1,805 mm tall (35 mm shorter). It ground clearance has increased by 13 mm to 218 mm, and the turning radius is 5.6 m.

There is only one engine on offer, which is the 2.4-liter MIVEC turbodiesel unit that makes 181 hp and 430 Nm. As with the engine, only one 8-speed automatic transmission is available. For off-road enthusiasts, the Super-Select 4WD-II four-wheel drive system now comes with a new Off-road Mode and Hill Descent Control to offer more performance off the beaten track.

The 2016 Pajero Sport comes with many safety features such as Forward Collision Mitigation system (FCM), Blind Spot Warning system, Ultrasonic misacceleration Mitigation System (UMS) and seven airbags. An electric parking brake is seen for the first time while a “Multi-Around” camera system is optional.

The new Pajero Sport will launch in India after February 2016.
