Will use the same engines as the Accord.

Theophilus Chin has rendered the 2016 Proton Perdana for Paultan, taking cues from teaser images shared by the company earlier. Company officials, including chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, teased the front and rear of the sedan at the Alami Proton event recently.

Unlike the previous Perdana, the new model will also be available for purchase by the general public.

Unlike the previous Perdana, which was a rebadged eighth-generation Honda Accord, the 2016 Perdana sports a thorough redesign inside and out. The front sees LED guide lights, LED daytime running lights, chrome highlights for the foglight enclosures and redesigned headlights. Over to the rear, the Perdana is confirmed to get split taillights, a chrome applique and exhaust tips integrated in the bumper.

Both engines will be paired to a 5-speed AT.

Inside, the rendering shows an identical layout to the Accord, save for a new steering wheel and a touchscreen entertainment system. Paultan reports that Proton may further re-style the interior, to better differentiate it from the Accord though.

Under the hood, the Perdana will use the same engines as the Accord: A 2.0-liter 154 hp i-VTEC engine and a 2.4-liter i-VTEC 177 hp engine will be available with a 5-speed automatic transmission.

The 2016 Perdana will be assembled by Proton at the Shah Alam plant.

Proton will make the Perdana at their Medium Volume factory in Shah Alam, alongside the Exora MPV. The government-only Perdana is made at Honda Malaysia's Melaka plant though.
