2016 Proton Saga to be repositioned, gain new 1.0L engine - Rendering

Exterior appears to be thoroughly revised.

Proton is prepping a replacement for the entry-level Proton Saga sedan, which will launch in 2016. Based on spyshots, Malaysian digital artist Mohd Taufik has worked on a couple of renderings of the next Proton Saga.

The 2016 Proton Saga in the rendering receives an Iriz-style chrome bar flanked by reshaped headlights, and a trapezoidal lower grille.

The exterior appears to be based on the current model, although thoroughly revised for a contemporary look. It receives an Iriz-style chrome bar flanked by reshaped headlights, trapezoidal lower grille and twin faux intakes with foglamps. At the back, it has a reshaped glasshouse with a C-pillar kink, as well as a new pair of wraparound taillights connected by a chrome number plate garnish.

Proton, it is reported, has decided to move the Saga to the A-Segment so to prevent cannibalizing Proton Persona sales, and achieve a more competitive price structure. The 2016 Proton Saga hence, will compete with the likes of the Honda Brio Amaze, Toyota Etios and Ford Figo Aspire.

The next Saga gets a new pair of wraparound taillights connected by a chrome number plate garnish.

Reports speculate that the new Saga could pack the Iriz's 1.3 litre VVT engine with a choice of a five-speed manual or a CVT. Later in its lifecycle, Proton will introduce their all new 1.0 litre and 1.2 litre three-cylinder engines that were recently announced. The new engines are expected to be ready by end of 2017.
