2016 Proton Saga - Rendering

Third sedan to launch this year, following Perdana and Persona.

Based on leaked images that reveal the next gen Proton Saga, Theophilus Chin has created a rendering that gives us a first clear look at Proton's latest budget sedan. It will be the third sedan from Proton to launch in Malaysia this year, following the Proton Perdana and Persona.

The 1.3 litre VVT engine will be borrowed from the Proton Iriz, and paired to either a 5-speed manual or CVT.

The exterior of the next gen Saga borrows design cues from the Proton Iriz hatchback, featuring a sleeker twin-slat chrome grille design, redesigned front bumper, new headlamps and a contoured engine hood. At the back, it features trapezoidal wraparound taillamps connected by a chrome bar and a new bumper design.

Reports suggest that it will be positioned in the A-Segment so to prevent cannibalizing from the upcoming Proton Persona as well as widen Proton's sedan lineup. The new Proton Saga, in markets like Thailand, will compete against the Honda Brio Amaze.

Under the hood, the Proton Saga is likely to source the 1.3 litre VVT engine from the Proton Iriz, paired to either a 5-speed manual or CVT. Later on, Proton will introduce their all new 1.0 litre and 1.2 litre three-cylinder engines in the Saga. The new engines are expected to be ready by end of 2017.
